House in Amsterdam, Netherlands

Dear Intervac  friends!
Welcome to our house!  We have been living here now for ten years and love it very much. We hope you do too, and treat it as such. We are situated a stone’s throw away from the city centre in a newly build residential area. Here we are continuing the Dutch tradition of claiming land from the sea, building on islands, like most of our great city is how this area was created. Our borough has a great number of young families with many children from the baby age to teenagers from many different nationalities. Our street has lots families with children from Holland as well from abroad like France, Belgium, Turkey and the Dutch Antilles.
Our house is spacious and great for kids. Lots of toys for kiddies and kids, dvd’s, comics, books – English – cd’s and of course Nickelodeon, Boomerang and Cartoon Network.  You’ll have two bathrooms, and three toilets, four bedrooms, a garden, 5 bicycles, the kitchen, our living room and our car ( if you wish ) to your disposal.
Within 5 minutes walking we have numerous shops for your daily groceries: a butcher, baker, supermarkets, pharmacies, as well a various restaurants: Greek,  Italian, Turkish.  A few blocks away we have a lovely little yacht harbor with restaurants and cafes. The harbor connects to the great Ijsselmeer which is our inner lake. Here you also find our city-beach www.blijburg.nl  which is great for kids and adults to swim, eat, drink and relax.
By bicycle it is very easy to make day tours, or shorter trips to the surrounding villages like Naarden, Muiden, Nieuwendam, Durgerdam or cycle into Amsterdam center.  Though close to the city nature is really plentiful available. The Diemerpark is great for a stroll, picknick, bicycle ride. Here is where the local soccer, hockey teams are practicing.
Public  transport is the way getting you in to Amsterdam centre.  Info on the Amsterdam public transport network which runs 24/7 is available here http://www.gvb.nl/english/Pages/default.aspx   Just a short 15  minutes tram ride brings you to the center where you find the Amsterdam Historical Museum, The Royal Palace on the Dam, Anne Frank house and Madam Tussaud.  Just as easy one transfer by tram brings you to the the Museum plein with the van Gogh museum, RijksMuseum and het Stedelijk Museum. Of course there’s much more like our Zoo www.artis.nl, the Anna Frank house, the botanical gardens, canal boat cruises. All about this and more you can find at www.iamsterdam.com
By car you can venture out and about to the nearby historical fishing villages of Volendam, Monnickendam, as well as the www.zaanseschans.nl but also the cheese city of Alkmaar with it’s Friday Cheese market http://www.kaasmarkt.nl/welcome.asp?lang=0  But you can of course make the extended day trips to the Hague where the government houses, Rotterdam the no 1 seaport of Western Europe, the Delta Werken in Zeeland protecting us from the water http://www.deltawerken.com/English/10.html?setlanguage=en  if you wish.
Of course the National Railways system is very efficient and brings you to any corner of the country within hours. Easy, relaxing and comfortable. All the info on how to get about by train you can find at http://www.ns.nl/cs/Satellite/travellers
Any more info you would like to have we are happy to help you with finding it for you.
