House in Rouen, France

Hello all,
We are Lucie & Jean-Paul from Rouen. We were born in 1950 and are both retired. We have 3 grown-up (and independent) children born respectively in 1975, 1978, and 1985. Our 2 daughters live in Paris, our son in Geneva. Lucie and the children are Swiss/French nationals. Lucie speaks French, English, and German. Jean-Paul speaks French, English, and a little Spanish. We have one adorable brown Burmese cat whom I only mention if you are allergic because she always stays with one of our children when we are trading houses.
We have had 15 exchanges via Intervac--12 of them in the USA (California, Hawaii, NYC, Washington State)--up to 2011. Now the children have all left us and we are preparing for regular exchanges, both
--short term (i.e. 2-4 weeks during the summer & autumn);
--and long term (2 to 3 months in the rest of the world at any given period of the year).
Our house was built in 1790. It retains some of its original decoration but has (obviously) been modernised.  The (small) garden is completely hidden from the street and is very pleasant in summer (pix 13-15). On the ground floor we have the hall (pic 2), a guest WC, the drawing-room on the left (pic 8), the dining-room and kitchen on the right (pix 3-6). The first floor has the master bedroom with a double bed (pic 10), Lucie's study (1 PC with ADSL), a small sitting room (pic 11), and a complete bathroom (bath-tub & toilet). The second floor has 2 bedrooms (1 double bed and 2 single beds), 1 sitting room (with TV & DVD), Jean-Paul's study (1 PC with ADSL), and a complete bathroom renovated in 2010 (shower & toilet). The house is built around a beautiful staircase and central shaft which you can see on some of the pix. The surface is a little over 190 sqm. Please note that the city map at the bottom of the page is wrong (see instead http://www.viamichelin.fr/ )
We are in the town centre (as can be seen on google and viaMichelin maps), between the Old Market and the Prefecture. We are lucky in that the centre has retained all its food shops, which makes everyday shopping quick & easy (it is a 3-mn walk to the Old Market Place and the main shops). We still have butchers, fishmongers, etc. and a farmers' market within walking distance. For those interested, the quality of the food available in Rouen is virtually unparalleled (cheese, poultry, fish, oysters, lamb & beef).
For European exchanges, we would prefer to drive our own car. There is a private parking space in front of our gate for exchangers to use. For exchangers from outside Europe, we have a fully insured VW Polo.
Our daughters who live in Paris are fluent English speakers and would be able to help you settle in comfortably.
Absolutely NO SECOND HOMES.

The city of Rouen (see http://www.rouentourisme.com/ ) has a number of major historical monuments (the Cathedral, several medieval churches of the first importance, the Aître Saint-Maclou, a charnel house dating back to the Black Death which is unique in Europe, the gothic Courts of Justice, a medieval Jewish bath-house which has no equivalent anywhere else, a Museum that has the second best impressionist collection in France after the Musée d'Orsay, etc.) and which puts up a very special Impressionist exhibition this summer (June 4 to September 24) http://www.van-gogh.fr/exposition/exposition-normandie-impressionniste-2010.php
The area immediately around Rouen has several major medieval monasteries (Jumièges pic 5, St. Wandrille, St. Georges, Bec-Hellouin, etc.) and churches.
Driving times to: Mont-Saint-Michel (2h30), the landing beaches of Normandy and the Bayeux tapestry (1h30), Dieppe beach (45mn),  Deauville & Trouville beaches (1h). For itineraries & driving time, see http://www.viamichelin.fr/
The city itself is surrounded by immense State forests, i.e. open to the public.
The train station is 10 mn. away on foot and the train service to Paris is excellent--a little over 1h from Rouen to Paris-Saint-Lazare. We have a direct TGV service to Lyon, Marseilles, and Nice. For reduced fares, it is a good idea to book train tickets in advance  (see http://www.voyages-sncf.com ).
