House in Storslett, Norway

Dear friends,
I would like to welcome you to my home, which is located in a quiet residential area close to the centre of Storslett,  the reginal centre of North Troms.
My house, 200 m2 , has 12 rooms: a large sitting- room that opens up to a TV/music room, a kitchen with a neighbouring laundry room, a computer room which can also be used as a bedroom, a working area with a writing desk and bookshelves, a master bedroom and a bathroom with a steamshower/shower.
In the basement there are two additional bedrooms, a bathroom and a hobby room.

About the region
Nordreisa with its biggest villages Storslett and Sørkjosen lies in North Troms and is part of the county Troms with its capital Tromsø. From here to Oslo is a distance of about 1500 km as the crow flies. Nordreisa borders on the county of Finnmark as well as Finland. There are good links with neighbouring municipalities and areas, and bus services to Tromsø and Alta. Widerøe's Air Transport Company operates daily services to and from Tromsø via Sørkjosen and Finnmark.
Nordreisa is best known for its beautiful, almost bewitching scenery. You can enjøy the outdoors on your doorstep - the mountains, lakes, fjords and the open sea. The Reisa valley is one of the loveliest unspoilt natural areas in the whole of Troms. Through this valley runs the Reisa river and leads you through the National Park which offers a rich and varied flora and fauna.
But it is not only the extremely and diverse nature that makes Nordreisa and North Troms so special but its people as well. The people and culture here are characterized by the coming together of the indigenous Saami population, the Kvens (people of Finnish descent) and the Norwegian population group, their traditions and their varying use of natural resources.
Natural experiences
It is here in the North where you can experience the midnight-sun and the short nights. People's need for sleep seem to be less, and after the long winter that lasts for almost seven months, the local population enjoys outdoor activities. The 50 km long Reisa valley is ideal for cycling. The Reisa river invites you to catch your own salmon or to participate in river boat excursions that last from 2-3 hours and take you further up the valley to the Mollis Falls having a vertical drop of 269 m.
Those who like going for short or long walks in the countryside have plenty of opportunities to do so. Just go outside. You do not need to go far to find beautiful scenery, lovely spots or superb views on Storslett and surrounding from higher places. Some other things that tourists seem to appreciate are the fresh air, the quietness and the fact that they do not need to share all this beauty with lots of other people. You can be on your own for once!
If you are keen on fishing or sea-based activities you have come to the right area. There is nothing better than catching your own cod or pollack or going on a fishing trip in the mountains to catch trout and char in the mountain lakes.
Other activities you might wish to enjoy are horse riding, paddling, canoeing, bird watching and glacier -wandering. If you are interested in skiiing/ cross -country- skiing Easter holidays would be the perfect time for a visit. In April days are getting longer and you can enjoy the glitring white snow on the mountains.
Do you  you now believe Nordreisa and North Troms to be somehow exotic? I think you are right!
About myself
I am a German citizen who has lived more than 40 years here in Storslett. I  teach English and German at the local upper -secondary school but I intend from June 2010 to go in retirement. My two sons, aged 36 and 37 have left the house and have set up families of their own. This allows me to travel a lot. Since travelling alone is not so much fun I like to take along one or two friends of mine who share my interest in history, art and architecture.
NB!
I have already found an exchange family for August 2011, but would love to exchange homes in April 2011 or even at Christmas if somebody would like to experience the Northern Lights and the special atmosphere during the days where the moon replaces the sun.
I have an open mind and would welcome getting offers from many intervac- friends all over the world. Do not hesitate to contact me. I like planning ahead because it envolves so much pleasure.
