Our Neighbourhood

Gmunden is a picturesque town in the Austrian state of Upper Austria, located on the northern shore of Lake Traunsee, and it serves as the gateway to the Salzkammergut region. This area is known for its stunning natural landscapes, historical landmarks, and a wide range of recreational opportunities.
Gmunden itself is famous for its beautiful lakeside setting, surrounded by the Alps, with the iconic Traunstein mountain towering in the background. The town has a long tradition in ceramics, which is reflected in the many shops selling Gmundner Keramik. The lake promenade invites visitors to take leisurely walks while enjoying the views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Another highlight is Schloss Ort, a historic castle located on an island in Lake Traunsee, connected to the mainland by a bridge. This castle is not only a popular photo spot but also a venue for cultural events.
The Salzkammergut is a breathtaking tourist region that spans several Austrian states. It includes a variety of idyllic lakes, such as Lake Wolfgang, Lake Hallstatt, and Lake Traunsee, as well as charming towns and villages. The region is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, offering opportunities for hiking, swimming, and sailing during the summer months. In winter, the Salzkammergut transforms into a winter sports paradise, especially for skiers and cross-country skiers.
The culture of the Salzkammergut is especially noteworthy. The region has long been a center of the salt trade, leading to a rich history and unique architecture. Towns like Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attract many tourists each year. In Hallstatt, visitors can admire the picturesque village and lake, as well as visit the Hallstatt Salt Mine, which has a centuries-old tradition of salt extraction.
The region also offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation, with numerous thermal baths. For hikers, there are many well-marked trails and mountain routes suitable for all levels. A popular destination is the Dachstein mountain, which, at over 2,900 meters, is the highest peak in the Salzkammergut.
Overall, the Salzkammergut region, with its combination of nature, culture, and recreational activities, provides a wide range of experiences for tourists of all ages and interests. Gmunden and the surrounding area are ideal for a relaxing yet adventurous vacation amidst breathtaking landscapes and historical sites.
