THE ULTIMATE HAWAIIAN GET-A-WAY. A state of the art house with private in ground swimming pool, kitchen with granite counters, breakfast bar and stainless-steel appliances. Microwave, dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer, two-door refrigerator/freezer. A 30 ft x 25 ft great room leading through large sliding glass doors to a covered lanai and on to the pool. There are two bedrooms, two bath rooms and a media room with a smart built-in 50" TV and surround sound speakers. The two-car garage entrance leads through to the laundry room to the kitchen. This home is equipped with high-speed fiber optic internet and stereo speakers throughout the house and the lanai. Jacuzzi bathtubs and granite countertops in both bathrooms. Located on a quiet, dead-end street.
Five minute walk (2 minute drive) to shopping and local cafes. Eight minute walk (4 minute drive) to major department stores and supermarket. Ten minutes to downtown Hilo.
We are experienced exchangers who will take very good care of your home and will have our house fully prepared for you. We offer an automobile, use of a computer, snorkeling and beach equipment. Our house has a clothes washer and dryer.
We are about 30 minutes from Volcanoes National Park (http://www.nps.gov/havo/index.htm) and close to many cultural and natural wonders.

About the neighborhood
As the map shows, the house is on a quiet cul de sac, close to shopping, restaurants and other services. 10 minutes from Hilo Bay where one can snorkel and enjoy views of whales, green sea turtles and more.

We think that it was better than most and not as good as a few. The accommodation was very good although we found it a little warm inside the house at times, despite the fans. The couple had left the house very clean and with quite good instructions. They very generously left a basket of goodies and arranged for friends to collect us from the airport and return us there. It quickly felt like home.

This was a hospitality exchange and Nina was a lovely host. I really enjoyed staying with her. She took me sightseeing, although I hired a car and made plans what to visit and what to see. Nina even organized a birthday party for me, introduced me to her friends. We went to concerts together, to dinners at local restaurants, it was extraordinary being submerged heavily into the local culture and social interaction. I loved it!
Everything was wonderful! Nina welcomed us very warmly. We had an unforgettable experience at her home! Thank you once again.

The World is My Teacher
Nina Buchanan, an educational psychologist, is an emerita professors from the University of Hawaii Hilo. She began traveling with Intervac in 1994 with her first exchanges to Limerick, Ireland and Barcelona, Spain. Nina and her husband travelled together from 1999 when they exchanged to Paris, France until his death in 2021. During their travels they spent time in Vienna, Barnoldswick, York, Rome, Aarhus, Aegina, Athens, Budapest, Prague, Herleheide, London, Berlin, Bethesda (US), Manhattan (US), Boston, Istanbul, Kracow, La Boule, Copenhagen, Pamplona, Cadiz, Seville, Bangkok, Bensheim, Glastonbury, Küssnacht, Dublin, Stockholm, Vancouver BC, Amsterdam, Brussels, Curitiba, Toulouse, Sydney, Nottingham, Ottawa (Canada), Polzela (Slovenia), Venice, Italy, Zadar, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus and Bucharest, Romania. Nina is once again traveling alone. "I love to travel and prefer exchanges to cities but am always open to new travel experiences, the longer the better!!"
