Heritage Home close to the Lake
We live in a beautiful heritage home in the “Old Allandale” neighborhood of Barrie. Just an 800m walk to the south shore of Lake Simcoe, we are close to the beach, walking/cycling paths, and the commuter train to Toronto.
Our home was built in 1890, and like us, the previous homeowners have made sure to maintain the heritage aspects of the house. The house sits on a half-acre/0.2-hectar property which backs onto the forested area of a large park. The park has a playground for children, as well as sports fields and community gardens.
On the ground floor we have a kitchen, formal dining and living rooms, a den/lounge, a small bathroom, a big covered porch, and backyard patio. Upstairs, we have a large bedroom with a queen-size bed, full bathroom, laundry room, as well as two offices with a double bed and single bed respectively. On the third floor, we have our secluded primary suite with queen bed, spa-like bathroom, and walk-out deck in the treetops. (We also have an unfinished basement, used only for storage.)

About the neighborhood
Barrie is a city in Ontario, Canada, which is located on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay, the western arm of Lake Simcoe. The population is about 160,000 people. Barrie is about 80 km North of Toronto, and is connected to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) by commuter rail, bus, and a major highway.
Originally colonized by settlers in early 1800’s, the city was incorporated in 1870. There are some lovely historic areas through the city, including the Allandale heritage neighbourhood where we live. Nearby are historic areas involved in the French missionary settlements of the 1600’s, and the British/American War of 1812.
There’s ample opportunity to easily access nature, whether on the local bike and hiking paths, on the lake, at local ski and mountain bike resorts, golf courses, wetlands, and beaches. We have a wide range of restaurants, plus farms and farmers markets, for those who live food and eating! There’s an art gallery, a theatre, cinema (including a drive in!), a major outdoor concert venture, casino and a horse racking track. The beautiful Muskoka lake district is just 30 minutes to the north.

Tara and Ricardo are very nice people, warm and helpful. Tara supported us with a lot of useful recomendation during our stay (places to see). Their house is really spacious, very well equiped, reality corresponds with the photos on their profile. The house was prepared for us, including linens, extra linens, towels and some food for the first moments. We appreciated very detailed instructions, prepared on the table as well as the basket with the "first aid" (cosmetics, vitamins etc.) I can definitely recommend these exchange partners.
Tara ist eine sehr entgegenkommenden, hilfsbereite und unkomplizierte Tauschpartnerin. Wir habenuns in ihrem Haus sehr wohl gefühlt, konnten jederzeit und sehr gut kommunizieren. Auch die Vereinbarungen waren ohne Probleme getroffen worden.

Nous avons été traité comme des invités. La maison est superbe et située dans un quartier très tranquille, près des plages du lac, au bout de la piste cyclable et du StreetCar qui mettent le centre de Toronto à 30 ou 45 minutes: on ne peut demander mieux. Notre hôte s'est montrée fort aimable et très prévenante, toujours au devant de nos besoins. Nous avons vraiment apprécié. Merci beaucoup Tara.

Semi-retired professional couple
Tara works as a business consultant for non-profit organizations. Ricardo is a journalist originally from Brazil. We both work part-time (semi-retired).
We enjoy nature, and frequently engage in walking, hiking, biking, and Nordic skiing, both here and in nearby areas. We also enjoy gardening. Also of interest: classical music, jazz, opera, ballet...cooking, baking, and wine...and reading. Ricardo loves football/soccer. And, of course, we love travelling!
