Amsterdam - apartment with a great view, 10 min from the old city centre - canal area
We joined Intervac in 2015. We have made five exchanges since then and are very enthusiastic.
Since 2016, we have lived in Amsterdam.
We now have our pied-à-terre on the 8th floor with a great view, in a newly built, fully equipped apartment building (incl. elevator) in Amsterdam North. Just 10 min. away from Amsterdam Central Station and the historic centre of Amsterdam. Very centrally located, a vivid but not overrun part of the city.
Our lovely sunny, bright open-plan living, compact apartment (50m2) is located on the 2nd floor, includes one bedroom, a bathroom and a separate toilet. The doors in the living room lead directly to a balcony over the full width of the apartment, facing West.
The house doesn´t have air conditioning, however, it does have a cooling system. This helps to lower the temperature with a few degrees in hot periods. Since we are on the 8th floor, it usually remains pretty cool.
We are a two-person family.

In October, we would like to have an exchange in Scotland. We´ll be staying there for about 3 weeks and will be travelling around. We could do 2 exchanges if you like to stay for a shorter period than the full 3 weeks. |

Sobre el vecindario
We live in Amsterdam Noord, very close to the city. 5 min. by bicycle to the (5min.) ferry to the Central Station and you are right in the old city centre.
The area has been developed, being a Dockland area before that. It is considered a very hip neighbourhood, with plenty of bars, coffee shops and restaurants around.
Transport from the airport to the Central Station takes less than 15 minutes by train.
Supermarkets and other shops are within a 15-minute walk, 5 min. cycling. There is a street market three days a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The so-called 'Van der Pek buurt'- area offers a nice view of historic social housing development. The area used to be full of shipyards, and to house the labourers, well-laid-out, typical Dutch housing plans and greenery were developed in the early 20th century.
There are plenty of restaurants in the direct vicinity. From informal to fine dining. And of course you will find heaps more restaurants in the centre of Amsterdam.
We are also very close (10 min by bicycle) to Waterland, where you can experience the Dutch country side and traditional Dutch landscapes of dikes, meadows, traditional houses and farms as well as the IJsselmeer. Tourist attractions like the Zaanse Schans are within cycling distance.
The beach of Zandvoort is half an hour away by train. As are the cities of Utrecht and Leiden.
